Your privacy, in writing

Working in someone’s home means seeing how they live. Discretion has always been part of the job; this agreement puts it in writing. It covers every client automatically, from the first call, message or enquiry — there’s nothing to sign or ask for.

Who it’s from

This agreement is given by James Morrison, trading as Handyman James, 24 Brookdale Road, Newton, Massachusetts 02460 (Construction Supervisor License #120385, Home Improvement Contractor #197410), to each client and everyone in the client’s household. Only James is bound by it. It asks nothing of you.

What’s kept confidential

Everything I see, hear or am told while working for you, or because I work for you, including:

Who you are — that you’re a client at all, your name and contact details, and the address of every property I look after.

Your home — its layout and contents, art, valuables, documents, and anything else on view.

Getting in — keys and where they’re kept; door, lockbox, gate and alarm codes; Wi-Fi passwords.

When you’re away — your schedule, travel dates, and when a property is empty.

The people — your family, guests, household staff and tenants, and anything said in my hearing.

The work — what was done, what it cost, and everything in estimates, invoices, contracts and messages.

Photos — every photo taken at your property.

What I promise

To use it only to do the work you’ve asked for, and to tell no one — not other clients, neighbors, friends, family, other trades or the press — that you’re a client, where you live, or anything about your home or household.

No photos in public. No photographs or video of your home, its contents or anyone in it on social media, this website, advertising or anywhere else public. Photos I take are for your job record only.

No names in public. No reviews, testimonials, case studies or “recent work” that name you or could identify your property, unless you ask for one in writing.

Keys and codes kept apart from you. Keys are never labeled with your name or address, and codes are never written down beside them. Both are returned or destroyed when the work ends, or whenever you ask.

Only where the work is. No going into rooms, drawers, cupboards, files, mail or devices beyond what the job needs.

Nobody else sent without your knowing. I work alone. If a job ever needs another licensed trade, I’ll tell you who before they come, they’ll be told only what that job needs, and I’ll only send someone who agrees to keep the same confidence.

How long it lasts

From your first call, message or enquiry, for as long as I work for you, and with no end date after that. It doesn’t lapse when a job, a contract or a Property Care membership ends.

The only exceptions

With your permission — given in writing; an email or a text counts.

Where the law requires it — a court order, a subpoena or a lawful demand from the police, or to establish or defend a legal claim — and then only what’s required. I’ll tell you first, unless the law forbids me to.

In an emergency at your property — a fire, a flood, a break-in or someone hurt — I’ll tell the emergency services what they need to help, and then tell you.

The companies that run parts of the business — listed in our Privacy Policy, such as Stripe for card payments and Google for email — only as far as each one’s part requires; and my insurer or accountant if a claim or a tax return needs it.

Anything already public other than through me.

If something goes wrong

If this agreement is ever broken, or I think your information may have been seen by someone it shouldn’t have, I’ll tell you promptly: what happened, what was involved, and what I’ve done about it.

Your records

What I hold about you, how it’s kept and for how long, and how to see it, correct it or have it deleted, are set out in our Privacy Policy and on Your Information.

A signed copy

If you’d like this agreement signed and dated by James for your own records — or for a family office, estate manager or insurer — ask by email or on (508) 306-1552, and one will be sent to you.

The law that applies

This agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If it’s ever changed, the new version appears here with a new date — and a change never takes protection away from anything I learned before it.
