When a snow emergency puts a parking ban on the street, a driveway stops being the convenient place to leave the car and becomes the only one. Shared and tandem drives need clearing properly rather than approximately, and there is usually nowhere obvious to put the snow.
Plows are quick, and they are also what scrapes up driveway surfaces, tears lawn edges and buries mailboxes. Every property on this register is cleared with snowblowers. It takes longer. Nothing underneath gets wrecked.
